Assessment
Creating
Formative:Performance: Authentic TaskStudent based problem solving skills.
Contemporary Artist
Formative:Oral: DiscussionWe discussed some contemporary artist in class and students did research on individual contemporary artists all focusing on free standing sculptures.
Group Critique and Display
Formative:Other: Peer Assessment Students will be assessed by their overall contribution to the group critique. Student's are expected to discuss and analyze each others works of art and explain what aspects they found to be difficult and successful for their composition. Students will also discuss how they would like their art works to be displayed for others to see. We will talk about the importance of croup displays and how they are viewed by others and open for interpretation.

Lesson
Day 1
Objectives
|
How to draw basic shapes and gesture drawings of the forms they decided to create. Students will begin with a demonstration, followed by practice using the overhead projector and then overlapping shapes.
|
Day 2
Objectives
|
How to create a form using paper mache’. Students will begin by sketching out their sculptures, looking for basic form. Once students have an understanding of the proportions and shapes their monsters will consist of, students will begin shaping the armature. Armature being the basic shape of the creature which will be used to apply paper mache' form.
|
Day 3
Objectives |
I will begin this lesson with a short video on how to create textures using paper mache' which will be followed by a demonstration. Students will understand the importance of overlapping paper and how the sculpture must balance by freestanding. Once students have primary shape of monster we will begin to discuss color theory, color overlay and analogous colors.
|
Day 4Objectives |
Sculpture should be free standing and we will discuss how balance in form is essential. Once students have their monsters completed, we will begin to add textures.
|
Day 5Objectives |
Armature in sculpture and how this frame holds the it all together, but also is where texture begins on the sculpture.
|
Day 6Objectives |
Project continued. PPT on sculptures and design. Students will begin painting their monsters. Students may add additional textures if they would like to such as, feathers or spikes, but this is not a requirement.
|
Day 7Objectives |
Students will have a group critique to discuss their work and projects will be displayed in the library.
